Tarlac State University is among 1,646 institutions evaluated by the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, placing in the 1001-1500 bracket, according to results released today (June 24) via the organization’s website.

Formerly known as THE Impact Rankings, the university improved its overall rank from last year’s 1501+ placement.

TSU submitted accomplishments in ten SDGs, scoring highest in SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals) and ranking in the 801-1000 bracket among 1610 institutions. It is also the mandatory qualifying SDG, accounting for 22% of the total score.

The university also scored best in SDG 1 (No Poverty), placing in the 401-600 rank, SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), which all placed in the 601-800 range.

Engr. Emir Lenard S.F. Sicangco, the chairperson for the university committee in charge, said in a message that participating in the ratings system has been challenging, but exciting at the same time.

“Since the system prioritizes publicly available evidence, it challenges the University to publish all of its contributions to the SDGs, and I think this is a good thing because we get to share to the world how we help to end poverty, protect the planet, and attain peace and prosperity through global partnerships,” he said.

“TSU intends to continuously participate in the rankings. Nevertheless, with or without the ratings system, TSU shall commit to do its part in addressing global challenges,” he added.

Other entries that also placed in the global ranking were SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

Working alongside Engr. Sicangco as committee members are Assoc. Prof. Augusto N. Lulu Jr., Assoc. Prof. Tiara Fatima F. Galang, Assoc. Prof. Jazzel Llaneli Manalo-Manabat, Assoc. Prof. Christine Janelle M. Santiago, Asst. Prof. Maricor Cheska B. Santos, Atty. Jayriz D. Dungca, Engr. Dick S. Tuazon, Engr. Rommel G. Gadia, Mr. Deyo Carlos L. Dela Cruz, Ms. Liana Faith Q. De Leon, Ms. Ma. Katrina M. Rivera, and Ms. Jay Ann L. Pablo.

THE Sustainability Impact Ratings is the only global ranking that measures how institutions worldwide advance sustainability in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
